Tour features
Five days hiking and trekking tour from the red Imperial city of Marrakech to the Berber village of Imlil in the high Atlas Mountains, through Moulay Brahim and Imi Oughlad. Outdoor enthusiasts on hiking or trekking tours often use the village and valleys as a launching point to summit Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain peak in North Africa at 4,167m’s. Known for its small traditional clay Berber villages clinging to the deep valley edges, the Imlil and surrounding valleys offers breathtaking beauty and spectacular scenery, both in summer and snowed-in winter conditions.
Itinerary
Day one - Marrakech to Tiziane: After breakfast pick-up from your riad in Marrakech and depart to Imlil. Start guided hike with local muleteer team carrying the backpacks and food up winding mule tracks to Tizi n’Tachete with views of Imlil and the Ait Oussaden valleys. Traditional Moroccan picnic lunch under the juniper trees. Hike to Assif Ait Oussaden and Tizian for overnight with dinner in local guesthouse.
Day two - Tiziane to Tizi n’Taghrhourte: After breakfast guided hike along the Assif Ait Oussaden valley up to Tizi n’Taghrhourte, arrive at Assaka spring. Traditional Moroccan picnic lunch at the spring. Continue hike along the forest edges to D’knt Berber village for dinner and overnight.
Day three - D’knt to Tizi Oussem: After breakfast guided hike through walnut groves, corn and barley fields and traverse the Tizi n’Tagdalte. Picnic lunch at small spring. Continue hike to reach the valley of Assif n’ait Oussaden, hike through the village of Tizi Oussem up to Azib Tamsoult for dinner and overnight.
Day four - Azib Tamsoult to Armed (Imlil): After breakfast guided crossing of Tizi n’Mzik pass. Picnic lunch under the trees. Continue hike downhill to reach Armed village (highest village in Imlil valley) for overnight and dinner in local guesthouse.
Day five - Armed to Marrakech: After breakfast, guided hike to Tamatert village, continue downhill to Imlil. Picnic lunch under the walnut trees. Explore the village on a short optional guided walking tour. Late afternoon arrival back in Marrakech with drop-off at your riad.
